Bali, often referred to as the “Island of the Gods,” is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and warm hospitality. However, this paradise destination has recently garnered attention for a less savory incident involving an Italian tourist. The tourist, identified only as LS, has been deported and blacklisted from Bali following a widely circulated video depicting a public indecency act in Seminyak. This incident has raised questions about the consequences of such behavior in a country that treasures its cultural values and norms.
Bali immigration officials recently confirmed that LS was deported on a Sunday, based on a police recommendation. The reason behind his deportation was labeled as an “immoral act” committed in the presence of an unidentified woman. The 35-year-old Italian had initially been granted a Visa on Arrival, which was set to expire on October 3. However, due to his indecent behavior, he faced a swift and severe response from Indonesian authorities.
Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Sugito, disclosed that LS was deported via Malaysia Airlines. His journey involved flying from Denpasar to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and then connecting on a Qatar Airways flight to Doha, Qatar, and finally returning to his homeland, Rome, Italy. Furthermore, Sugito stated that LS’s name would be included in the deterrence list as part of Immigration Administrative Action (TAK).
LS’s name will be placed on the “immigration blacklist,” as confirmed by the Indonesian National Police. Typically, individuals on this list are barred from re-entering Indonesia for a specified period. In LS’s case, his name may remain on the blacklist for six months, with the possibility of extensions for additional six-month intervals. This punitive measure is intended to deter foreigners from engaging in activities that are inconsistent with the cultural norms and values of Bali and Indonesia as a whole.
Reports suggest that LS, who had been staying in a hotel in Kuta, crossed paths with an unidentified woman at a nightclub on September 9. The two allegedly agreed to find a hotel to continue their evening. However, their actions soon caught the attention of a local resident when his dog began barking incessantly. Initially, the homeowner suspected someone was urinating in his front yard, only to discover the couple engaged in an explicit act in front of his house.
The case of LS, the Italian tourist deported and blacklisted from Bali, serves as a stark reminder of the importance of respecting the local customs and values when visiting foreign destinations. Bali, with its deep-rooted culture and spirituality, takes a strong stance against public indecency, as demonstrated by the swift action taken by immigration officials. Visitors to this beautiful island should remember to be culturally sensitive and respectful to ensure a harmonious and enjoyable stay while preserving the sanctity of this tropical paradise.
